What is cervicalgia?

Cervicalgia is a medical term used to describe pain in the neck or cervical region of the spine. This pain can vary from mild to severe and can be caused by various conditions or factors.

Causes of cervicalgia

  1. Muscle Tension: Muscle tension and stiffness in the neck area can cause cervicalgia. This can be due to poor posture, excessive stress or intense physical activity.
  2. Herniated Disc: A cervical herniated disc occurs when intervertebral disc material leaks and can press on the spinal nerves, causing pain in the neck and sometimes radiating symptoms in the arms.
  3. Cervical arthrosis: Cervical arthrosis is the wear and tear of joints in the neck region, which can cause pain and limited mobility.
  4. Cervical Spinal Stenosis: Cervical spinal stenosis is the narrowing of the spinal canal in the cervical region, which can compress the spinal cord or nerves and cause pain.
  5. Injuries and Trauma: Injuries from accidents, falls or blows can cause acute cervicalgia.
  6. Inflammation: Inflammatory processes, such as ankylosing spondylitis or rheumatoid arthritis, can affect the cervical spine and cause pain.

FIT Therapy Technology and treatment protocols.

  • Rest and Habit Changes: Avoid movements or postures that may worsen the pain and adopt better ergonomics.
  • Physiotherapy: Stretching and strengthening exercises to improve neck flexibility and strength.
  • Manual Therapies: Chiropractic, osteopathy or manual therapy for adjusting cervical joints.
  • Hot and Cold Therapy: Application of hot or cold packs for temporary relief.

If you suffer from cervicalgia, it is important to consult a medical professional for an accurate diagnosis and an appropriate treatment plan. The management of neck pain requires a personalised approach according to the specific cause of the pain. In addition, prevention through good posture, regular exercise and stress management can help reduce the risk of future neck problems.
